APCI Board of Directors Chairman Dale Johnson opens elections at the 2025 APCI Annual Convention Photo by Richard Kirby, APCI
The elected members of the co-op’s Board of Directors use their experience, industry research, and member input to chart the course of APCI's future.
Board members are elected to three-year terms each year during APCI’s Annual Convention. Requests for nominations for board members are sent to APCI stockholders in January, and nominees are finalized in early February. Members attending the convention vote in person for their favored nominees, while members unable to attend vote by proxy.
Listed below are the Board of Directors nominees for 2025:
Steven Boatwright graduated from University of Mississippi in 1988. He has been in the pharmacy industry for 37 years; owned his own pharmacy, Boatwright Pharmacy, for 31 years; and has been an APCI member for 17 years. He currently serves on the Patriot Bank Board of Directors and previously served on the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce board for two four-year terms. Steven is also a member of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and NCPA.
He sees the future direction for APCI to be to maintain and continue current mission while always exploring ways to help business and profitability. Steven notes that APCI is “the best in the business” and has earned the trust over the years that the co-op has pharmacy owners in their best interest.
Mr. Boatwright was initially elected to the APCI Board of Directors in 2020. He is concluding his second term on the Board and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue his service to all APCI members.
Dwight Disney has been the owner of Vaughn Pharmacy in Powell, Tenn., since November 1988. It has always been his dream to own an independent pharmacy. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer University in June 1988. Dwight is a people person and truly loves serving the local community and helping his patients navigate their healthcare needs. He is a member of the Powell Business & Professional Association, and he enjoys helping out the senior centers and local charities whenever possible. He supports his church as well as the local schools and athletic teams. In past years he has also served on a bank board.
Dwight also loves the building industry. He and his father began a construction business in 2004, building both residential and commercial structures. He enjoys watching the process of the job from the groundwork up to the final completed product; he feels like this is another way to help people in the community. He and his wife, Andrea, have three adult children, with one of his daughters working alongside him as a pharmacist. When he is not at the pharmacy or a construction site, Dwight is playing “Grandpa DD” to his four grandchildren who keep him and Andrea feeling young.
Mr. Disney is currently serving his third term on the APCI Board of Directors and holds the position of the board’s Secretary/Treasurer.
Dale Johnson graduated from Auburn University in 1969 and has been the owner of Boaz Discount Drugs in Boaz, Ala., for 53 years. Dale has been a member of APCI since its beginning in 1984 and has been honored to serve on the board of directors since 2014. Dale, alongside five additional full-time staff pharmacists (including his youngest daughter, Anna), continue to adapt to the ever-changing pharmacy profession.
Mr. Johnson and his wife Donna have been married for 57 years and have three children and eight grandchildren. He is blessed to have his entire family near his farm in Sardis City, Ala., and any time spent away from the drug store is likely spent with them.
Dale was awarded the distinguished Bowl of Hygeia award by the Alabama Pharmacy Association in 2025. He was originally elected to the APCI Board in 2014 and is completing his eleventh year of service this year. Dale’s character and leadership ability led to his appointment as Board Chairman in 2021, and fellow Board members have reappointed him to that role for five consecutive years. His wisdom and quiet demeanor, coupled with a strong commitment to doing the right thing in the right manner, make him the consummate leader.
